1) Show off your sophisticated movie taste at Circle Cinema.
Circle Cinema has been in the neighborhood since 1928. As Tulsa’s only independent and non-profit movie theatre, they show independent, foreign, and documentary films. Circle Cinema also has a great concession stand with fresh popcorn and AMAZING cookies from Altamont Bakery. They are located at 10 South Lewis Avenue.
2) Go on an early morning date to Hoot Owl Coffee.
Hoot Owl just recently opened up their flagship store on the corner of Admiral and Lewis. They roast all of their coffee in-house. You’ll also be showing your social consciousness, because for every pound of coffee they sell, they donate a pound of food to a local food bank. And if things go well, there is enough time left in the day to explore Tulsa! Visit them at 1 North Lewis Avenue.
3) Head over to Ziegler’s and pick up some art supplies.
Ziegler’s has been in the Kendall Whittier neighborhood for over 40 years, so they have all the art supplies you need. Draw a Kendall Whittier streetscape … or each other! (But make it PG. It is a first date, after all.) Ziegler’s also has great Tulsa art and memorabilia, plus a big poster frame shop with vintage concert posters on the walls. Head over to 6 North Lewis Avenue!
4) Release your inner geek at Fab Lab Tulsa on the first Saturday of the month.
Let’s face it – geeks are hot. And there’s no better place than Fab Lab to show off your skills. Fab Lab is an MIT-chartered fabrication lab with advanced manufacturing and digital tools for developing inventions and producing personalized products. For the visitor day activities, you have the opportunity to create a digital fabrication project with staff and volunteer supervision. They are located at 710 South Lewis Ave.
5) Take a tour of Marshall Brewing and sample some local beers.
Marshall Brewing Company is Tulsa’s first microbrewery and winner of countless awards for their craft beers. The tours are first-come, first-serve and last around 30 minutes, culminating with… you guessed it, samples of Marshall’s amazing beers! Check out their website for scheduled tour dates and visit them at 618 South Wheeling Avenue.
