Oklahoma Main Street Center & KWMS Joins Up With Team Better Block for Upcoming Training Nov. 6-8
The Oklahoma Main Street Center will join forces in November with Team Better Block to take over a portion of the historic Kendall Whittier Main Street during an upcoming program manager/volunteer training.
The Team Better Block, from Dallas, Texas, temporarily re-engineers and re-programs auto-dominated, blighted, and underused urban areas into complete ones by working with cities, developers and stakeholders to create quick, inexpensive, high-impact changes. Watch this video to learn more and see the original Better Block project.
Managers and volunteers from 38 Main Street programs will gain an introduction to the Better Block approach and actively participate in classes, demonstrations and installations. At the end of the training, each person will have the opportunity to become certified in the Better Block approach.
The program manager/volunteer training will be held November 6-8 and is free to the public to attend. If you are interested in attending the training, please contact Tracy Cox to secure your spot. We also invite you to visit the revitalized block on November 7 from 4 pm – 10 pm to enjoy music, food, shops and other attractions that will bring the block to life.
Since 1985, more than 60 towns have been a part of the Main Street Center family. There are currently 38 active Main Street programs across the state. Seminole became the newest addition in 2011. For more information on the Oklahoma Main Street Center visit www.OKcommerce.gov/mainstreet.
